Jonathan Chavanne, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. Jonathan is currently serving in the US Navy Reserves as a member of the OPNAV Ops and Plans Reserve Detachment. Jonathan also held the position of CSG-4 Air C2 Executive Officer in the Navy Reserves. In 2021, they worked as the Chief Analyst for Tech-Marine Business, Inc. (TMB). Prior to that, they served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the US Navy Reserve from 2005 onwards. From 2018 to 2021, they worked as a Consultant at Covenant Park Integrated Initiatives. In 2019, they held the role of OPNAV N5 China in the US Navy. From 2015 to 2018, they worked as an Assistant Professor at the U.S. Naval Academy. In 2013, they completed a one-year internship as a History Fellow at the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) History Office. Jonathan also had a long tenure as a US Navy Officer on active duty from 1998 to 2004.

Jonathan obtained their Bachelor's Degree in History with a minor in Political Science/Russian Language from Baylor University in 1997. Following this, they pursued a Master's Degree in Military Studies - Land Warfare from American Military University, completing it in 2005. Continuing their academic journey, Jonathan returned to Texas A&M University, earning their first Master's Degree in Military History/U.S History in 2011. In 2016, they successfully completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Military History/U.S. History, still at Texas A&M University. Most recently, from 2018 to 2020, they attended the U.S. Naval War College, obtaining a JPME-1 degree.
