Lee Buchanan's work experience is as follows:

From 1985 to 1998, Buchanan served as the Deputy Director and Acting Director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), where they were responsible for overseeing over $2 billion in basic and applied research. During their time at DARPA, Buchanan played a crucial role in the development of groundbreaking technologies such as the Internet, the Global Positioning System, stealth technology, and night vision.

In 1998, Buchanan joined the US Navy as the Assistant Secretary Navy (Research Development & Acquisition), where they served as the most senior executive for research, development, and acquisition for the Navy and the Marine Corps until 2001.

In 2001, Buchanan became a Member of the Board of Regents and Senior Fellow at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, a position they held for an unspecified period of time.

From 2005 onwards, Buchanan held various leadership roles at different organizations. Lee served as a Director at Technical Communities from an unspecified start date. In 2007, Buchanan became the Sector VP of Electronic Warfare at EDO Corporation, a position they held until 2009.
