George J. Spanos

George J. Spanos is a board member at Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania. George has over 20 years of experience in leading information services and global business system transformation.

Spanos started their career at The Hershey Company in 1998 as Vice President, Information Services. In this role, they led the information services team and directed the company’s global business system transformation. The Hershey Company is a $1.6B global manufacturer of chocolate, confectionery, and other food products.

In 2016, Spanos left The Hershey Company to join ClearStory Data as VP Strategic Solutions. ClearStory Data is a big data intelligence company that helps organizations make data-driven decisions. George only stayed with the company for six months before joining Glatfelter as VP Global Business System Transformation Lead.

Spanos is currently leading an enterprise transformation for Glatfelter, a $1.6B global manufacturer of engineered materials and paper products. The objective of the program is to harmonize the disparate operations of 3 international business units into one global, common operating system for the business. The new business system will dramatically improve Glatfelter’s operating profits and asset utilization, enable integration of newly acquired businesses, improve risk management and controls, and provide a platform for an “information driven enterprise” to drive year over year continuous improvement.

George J. Spanos attended the Wharton School for Executive Education, where they earned their Advanced Management Program certification. George also holds a Bachelor of Science from Penn State University's College of Business, with a focus in quantitative business analysis. In addition, they have earned certifications from LinkedIn in universal principles of design and software architecture foundations.
