Head, Epigenetics at Telethon Kids Institute

Sam Buckberry has a diverse work experience across various organizations. Currently, they hold the position of Head of Epigenetics at the Telethon Kids Institute, starting in June 2023. Prior to this, they served as a Bioinformatician - Indigenous Genomics at the same institute from January 2022 to July 2023. In addition, Sam Buckberry is a Senior Lecturer at the ANU College of Health and Medicine at the Australian National University since January 2022. They have also been involved with the North Metropolitan Health Service as a Committee Member since January 2020. Sam Buckberry has contributed to the Australasian Genomic Technologies Association (AGTA) as an Executive Committee Member since January 2017. They have held research positions at The University of Western Australia as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from July 2015 to December 2021 and at The University of Adelaide as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Researcher PHD Student, and Demonstrator for BioInfoSummer 2013. Furthermore, they have served as a Teaching Assistant for a Bioinformatics and Scripting Workshop at the University of Adelaide in June 2013. Sam Buckberry conducted research as a Research Student at the University of Adelaide from January to November 2011. They gained their initial research experience as a Research Assistant at Flinders University, studying the symbiotic relationship between tropical Clownfish and their host Anemones and developing effective university teaching methods from June 2009 to January 2011. They also served as a Tutor and as a Demonstrator for Science Alive - National Science Week at Flinders University in 2009. Before embarking on their career in research, Sam Buckberry worked as an Assistant Vineyard Manager at Upper Tintara Vineyards from an unspecified date until 2007.

Sam Buckberry has a strong educational background in the field of genome biology and bioinformatics. They obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the University of Adelaide, focusing on Genome Biology and Bioinformatics, which they completed in the years 2012-2015. Prior to that, they pursued a BHlthSc (Honours) degree in Human Genetics & Epigenetics at the University of Adelaide in 2011. Sam also holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree with an extended major in Biological Sciences, which they obtained from Flinders University in the years 2008-2010. Additionally, in 2008, Sam completed foundation studies in Applied Science and Engineering at the University of South Australia.

In addition to their formal education, Sam Buckberry has obtained multiple certifications in various fields. They have completed several online courses, including "Programming for Everybody (Getting Started with Python)" and various courses offered by Johns Hopkins University such as "Statistical Inference," "Reproducible Research," "Exploratory Data Analysis," "Getting and Cleaning Data," "R Programming," and "The Data Scientist's Toolbox." These certifications were obtained between the years 2014 and 2020.
