Dr. Denise Canchola has extensive work experience in the field of psychiatric nursing and healthcare management. Dr. Denise has worked in various roles and positions at different organizations throughout their career.
From 1986 to 1989, Dr. Canchola served as the Associate Director of Nursing - Mental Health at Jackson Memorial Hospital. In this role, they supervised head nurses on multiple inpatient units and crisis stabilization units, represented the Public Health Trust with the Dade County Community Mental Health Centers, and participated in risk management and financial assessment.
From 1987 to 1989, they were a Clinical Nurse Specialist - Psychiatry at Cedars Medical Center. Dr. Denise'sresponsibilities included acting as a team-worker, clinical supervisor, and educator for the staff nurses and mental health technicians in two inpatient psychiatric units. Dr. Denise also assisted the Nursing education department in topics relevant to mental health needs across the hospital.
From 1989 to 1992, Dr. Canchola held the position of Clinical Director at Psych-Care, where they supervised the utilization review and authorization processes for a sub-capitated MSO. Dr. Denise also developed and managed a 23-hour triage service for mental health emergencies.
From 1992 to 1995, they served as the Chief Clinical Officer at Florida Psychiatric Group. In this role, they worked as a team-worker, manager, and clinical supervisor. Dr. Denise'sresponsibilities included managing charting procedures, physician-nurse practitioner relations, and clinical documentation for capitated and managed care contract development.
From 1995 to 2013, Dr. Canchola worked as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at CHRISTIAN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SPECIALISTS. Dr. Denise founded and led this nurse-led private behavioral health practice, providing direct patient care in inpatient, outpatient, and intensive outpatient programs for substance abuse and mental illness. Dr. Denise also handled various responsibilities involving training, staffing, education, risk management, and patient satisfaction.
From 2013 to 2018, they joined The Center for Health Care Services. Dr. Denise also holds similar roles at Rites of Passage and iKare, where they provide psychiatric care and therapy to patients.

Dr. Denise Canchola completed their education with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Marine Science from Trinity University in 1978. Dr. Denise then went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Yale University, graduating in 1981. Later, they obtained a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Miami, completing their education in 2010.
