Ken Harris

Ken Harris has extensive work experience in the field of software development and information technology. Ken began their career as a programmer at First Bank Milwaukee Data Processing (now Fiserv), where they worked with Cobol programming in a Burroughs mainframe environment. Ken then moved on to work as a programmer/analyst at Unico, Inc., where they gained experience in writing business software and managing a PDP-11/70 system. During this time, they also started programming in languages like C, Perl, Icon, Snobol, and Lisp.

In 1988, Ken joined the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee as a Systems Administrator for the CSEE (Computer Science and Electrical Engineering) department. Ken was responsible for managing computing resources, specifically DEC Vax machines running BSD 4.x Unix.

In 1990, Ken became a co-owner of Itech, Inc., where they provided Unix and Internet consulting services. Ken spent 12 years on-site at Milwaukee Public Schools, designing, implementing, and managing their Internet services. Over the course of their tenure, the project grew significantly, from a single Sparc-10 and T1 connection to a data center full of Sun servers, 2 DS3 Internet connections, and 30,000 desktops in 200 schools.

Most recently, Ken served as a Sr. Developer at Telkonet, where they were involved in C++/QT development of web service clients and servers using XMLRPC, SOAP, and RESTful interfaces. Ken also worked on interfacing Telkonet energy management systems with third-party property management systems. In addition, they had experience in web development using PHP, HTML5, Javascript, and CSS.

Ken Harris completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Wartburg College from 1970 to 1974. Ken then pursued a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, which they completed from 1980 to 1983. Ken continued their education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where they pursued a Doctorate in Computer Science and reached the ABD (All But Dissertation) stage, completing their studies from 1985 to 1990.
