Head, Plant Transformation And Tissue Culture at Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory

Somika Bhatnagar has a diverse work experience in the field of biotechnology and research. Somika is currently an Affiliate Faculty at Singapore Management University, starting in October 2023. Prior to this, they held the role of Head of Plant Transformation and Tissue Culture at Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory since 2015. From 2010 to 2014, they were the Manager of Strategic Research Planning in Tree Biotechnology and also worked as a Manager (Technical) at BioForest Pvt Ltd from 2006 to 2012. Somika also has experience as a Post Doctoral Fellow and Research Officer, having worked from 2003 to 2007.

Somika Bhatnagar holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Plant Molecular Biology from Delhi University, which they obtained in 2003. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Philosophy degree in Plant Molecular Biology from Delhi University in 1997. In 1996, they completed their Master of Science in Botany from the University of Rajasthan, and in 1994, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in Botany and Chemistry from Banasthali Vidyapith. Somika completed their secondary education with a CBSE 12 degree in Science from Birla Balika Vidya Peeth, Pilani in 1991. Somika Bhatnagar has also obtained additional certifications, including a certificate course in Bioinformatics from S-Star Alliance, Singapore in 2003 and the National Eligibility Test (NET) for Lectureship from University Grant Commission (UGC) and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India in 1997. In recent years, they have obtained certifications in Biodiversity Fundamentals from the UN Global Compact Academy in 2023 and an Advanced Certificate in Driving Sustainability for the Future from Singapore Management University in 2022.
