Scientist 1 at Tenaya Therapeutics

Wenjing Liang began their work experience as a Visiting PHD Student at UC San Diego from September 2016 to March 2018, where they focused on studying the role of the G protein-coupled receptor GPR68 in pancreatic cancer associated fibroblast and the differential expression of G protein-coupled receptors in the heart.

Following that, they worked as a Graduate Student at Shandong University from January 2014 to June 2018. During this time, they conducted independent research on atherosclerosis, specifically studying the detrimental effect of type II diabetes on atherosclerotic plaque rupture and macrophage infiltration in atherosclerosis mouse models. They also served as a Medical Intern during their time at Shandong University, shadowing medical specialists, assisting nursing staff, and preparing exam and treatment rooms for patients and physicians.

In 2018, Wenjing Liang moved back to UC San Diego as a Postdoctoral Fellow, where they worked until February 2023. Their research focused on autophagy and mitophagy in the aged heart, with a particular emphasis on the role of Autophagy-related protein (ATG)9 in the cardiac aging process. They also investigated extracellular vesicle biogenesis, cargo, release, and its role as a cellular quality control pathway for eliminating damaged organelles in mouse and human heart samples with impaired lysosomal function.

In January 2023, Wenjing Liang joined Genentech as a Scientist Contractor, and later in May 2023, they also started working at Tenaya Therapeutics as a Scientist 1. No end dates are specified for these positions.

Wenjing Liang obtained a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Shandong University between 2007 and 2012. Following that, they pursued a Master's degree in Pharmacology again at Shandong University, from 2012 to 2014. Finally, they completed their education by earning a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in Cardiovascular Science from Shandong University between 2014 and 2018.
