Melanie King has a diverse and extensive work experience. Melanie currently holds the position of VP, Chief Development Officer at Tennessee Aquarium since March 2022. Prior to that, they served as the Director of Development and Senior Development Officer at Tennessee Aquarium from June 2018 to June 2017. Earlier in their career, they worked as the Vice President of Business Development and Director of Leadership Giving at Georgia Tech Alumni Association from July 2016 to June 2017 and November 2005 to June 2016 respectively. Melanie also held roles such as Regional Director of Development at National Wildlife Federation, Director of Development at Georgia Conservancy, Sales Associate at Carole Parks Catering, Corporate Support Manager - Office of Development at Atlanta History Center, and Associate at Crouse Investments/John E. Galvin Charitable Trust. Melanie began their career as an Academic Counselor at Tulane University.
Melanie King attended Stony Brook University from 1983 to 1986, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature.

Located on the banks of the Tennessee River in Chattanooga and surrounded by the natural beauty of the mountains, the Tennessee Aquarium tells the story of the river – following the path of a raindrop from the streams of an Appalachian Forest to the Gulf of Mexico – from the mountains to the sea. Although the Aquarium has grown in size and in animal population since it’s opening in 1992, its story and its mission as a private, non-profit institution have remained the same; ‘to inspire wonder, appreciation and protection of water and all life that it sustains.’
