Rama's earlier experience includes working at Microvision, where they were responsible for program management and quality assurance of the world's first laser light source pico-projector Integrated Photonics Module. Rama managed global teams and oversaw product design, manufacturing line setup, and optimization.

Their earliest work experience was at HP, where they held various roles in research and development engineering and program management. Rama contributed to thermal inkjet printhead design and integration, and later managed a team of engineers and a budget for inkjet printer mechanical subsystems.

Rama Prasad, Ph.D., obtained a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, from 1986 to 1990. Following that, they pursued a Ph.D. in MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) at Cornell University, from 1990 to 1996.
