David G. Khachatrian

Data Scientist at Terray Therapeutics

David G. Khachatrian has a diverse work experience. David began their career in 2014 as a Neuroscience Research Intern at City of Hope's Aboody Laboratory, where they performed in vitro characterization assays for a new human neural stem cell line and analyzed biodistribution of Fe 2+ -labeled NSCs in NSG mouse in vivo model. In 2015, they worked as a Research Assistant at the W.M. Keck Center for Neurophysics, where they created a custom video-capture and data logging program interfacing with a camera using LabVIEW for use in experimental sessions investigating memory formation. David also increased visual data acquisition rate by 67% through software optimization. In 2016, they worked as a Research Assistant at the Division of Mathematical Oncology of City of Hope, where they modeled the movement of neural stem cells in cerebral tissue based on structure tensor analysis to predict cell fate, and automated pruning, clustering, and quantitative plotting of regions of interest within histological slices. From 2017 to 2021, they worked as a Technical Consultant and Self-Employed, where they developed offline low-compute speech-to-text software for interview transcription, recommended feature extraction and significance validation protocols for detecting human disease states using Raman spectroscopy, and prepared and delivered educational materials on topics of interest. In 2021, they began working as a Data Scientist for Terray Therapeutics, where they worked with a team of science-minded wet-lab and dry-lab colleagues to expedite the drug discovery process. David also architected, implemented, and rolled out a productionized form of the computational half of “decoding” (step required before screening), which runs >5x faster using half the resources when matching previous configurations, while allowing for more flexibility that has saved costly (>1-day) wet-lab reruns.

David G. Khachatrian obtained a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering (with Technical Breadth in Computer Science) from the University of California, Los Angeles between 2013 and 2017. In October 2018, they earned an Engineer-in-Training certification from the Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. In November 2019, they completed a Statistics and Data Science MicroMasters from MITx on edX.
