Matt Smith

Matt Smith is a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer in Drive Systems Engineering at Tesla, where they lead the design of mechanical power transmission components. Prior to Tesla, they served as a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer at Boeing from 2008 to 2020, earning accolades such as the 2019 Engineer of the Year for the Boeing Defense, Space, and Security – Vertical Lift Division. They also worked as a Transmission Design Engineer and Design Supervisor at Sikorsky from 2020 to 2021, focusing on gearboxes for rotorcraft, and as a Lead Design Release Engineer at Canoo from 2021 to 2022. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University, which they completed in 2006.
