Robert Sumpf is a highly experienced professional in mechanical design engineering, currently serving as the Director of Mechanical Design Engineering for Battery Module and Pack at Tesla since December 2009. Prior roles at Tesla include Senior Manager, Manager, Staff Mechanical Design Engineer, Senior Mechanical Engineer, and Mechanical Engineer, all focused on battery systems. Prior to Tesla, Robert worked as a Research Engineer at Ausra and held various leadership roles at Stanford Sierra Camp, including Hiking Leader, Photographer, and Waterski Instructor. Robert began the career with an internship in Fuel Cell Research at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Academically, Robert obtained a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, along with a strong foundational education at Punahou School.
