Dav Lion has an extensive work experience spanning several companies and roles. They started their career as an instructor at SGI in 1993 and later worked as an artist consultant at Microsoft in 1995. In 1996, Dav co-founded Electric Fish, Inc., where they served as the Co-President and successfully designed and shipped various software applications. They also worked as an architect and lead developer at Trusted Media Networks from 2002 to 2005.
In 2006, Dav joined Tableau Software as a Senior Software Engineer and made significant contributions to various teams within the company. They played a crucial role in building connectivity to new data sources, ported the Tableau Desktop application from Windows to OSX, and enhanced existing connectivity for improved performance. They also designed and built the first four releases of Tableau Server, allowing for enterprise sales and expansion into the cloud. Dav worked at Tableau Software until 2015.
After leaving Tableau, Dav joined Gemio as the Principal Software Engineer, where they developed production firmware and managed iOS and Android development efforts for a connected fashion wearable. They also had the opportunity to bring the device up at the Jabil factory in Guangzhou. In 2018, Dav worked as an artist engineer independently, utilizing Fusion 360, laser cut designs, Raspberry Pi, OBD-II, BTLE, MIDI, Python, and C for multiple projects.
In 2018, Dav became the owner of Acme Consulting LLC, focusing on prototype medical devices. They are not accepting new clients at the moment. Most recently, Dav worked as a consulting engineer at Identifeye Health from 2019 to the present, contributing to the company's projects.
Dav Lion pursued higher education in various institutions, starting with a Bachelor of Arts degree at Brown University from 1985 to 1989. During this time, they had a dual concentration in Computer Science and Studio Art. In 1988, Dav Lion briefly attended the Maryland Institute College of Art, where they focused on Photography. Later on, they pursued a Master of Science in Virtual Interface Technology at the University of Washington from 1991 to 1993.
