Tal Zaks

Dr. Zaks, M.D., Ph.D., has served as Chief Medical Officer of Moderna, Inc. since 2015 and has announced his departure effective late September 2021. From 2010 to 2015, he held senior development positions at Sanofi, including Senior Vice President and Head of Global Oncology. From 2008 to 2010, he served as Vice President of Clinical Research, Oncology at Cephalon. From 2004 to 2008, he served as Director, Clinical Development and Translational Medicine at GlaxoSmithKline. From 1996-1999, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Zaks has also served as an adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania since 2004 and as an adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at Tufts Medical Center since 2017. He has served on the Board of Directors of Adaptimmune Therapeutics plc since 2016.

Dr. Zaks received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Ben Gurion University in Israel, conducted post-doctoral research at the U.S. National Institutes of Health and completed clinical training in internal medicine at Temple University Hospital, followed by a fellowship in medical oncology at the University of Pennsylvania. He has also been awarded Ph.D. honoris causa from Bar-Ilan University.
