Timothy P. Scott

Dr. Timothy P. Scott was named interim provost and executive vice president of Texas A&M University in September 2021. Prior to that, he served as associate provost for academic affairs and student success. Before serving as associate provost, Dr. Scott joined the biology faculty in 1990 and served as associate dean for undergraduate programs in the College of Science from 2000 to 2016.

His original research focused on the American alligator, but he expanded his portfolio to include state and national science standards, STEM teacher certification research, high-impact science teacher professional development, and student achievement in K-12 and higher education.

As associate provost, Dr. Scott oversaw the Student Success Initiative for Texas A&M, managing advising, analytics, the Routh First-Generation Center, and Hullabaloo U. He led Texas A&M’s Student Success Initiative, generating unprecedented growth in retention and graduation rates, and he co-directs the Center for Mathematics and Science Education, overseeing projects totaling more than $29 million. In addition, he led curriculum redesign projects for high-enrollment courses, initiated open education resources, and served on the Provost Academic Leadership Team.

Dr. Scott built and directed many different learning communities through the years, including those for first-generation science majors, pre-service math and science teachers, and STEM transfer students. Along with his other roles, Dr. Scott serves as the institutional lead for American Talent Initiative and the Powered by Publics Campaign of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from Louisiana College, and from Texas A&M University, he received both a master’s in biology and a Ph.D. in zoology.
