Ray Bonilla

Ray Bonilla is the current General Counsel at TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY SYSTEM,THE. Prior to this position, they served as primary legal counsel to the State Comptroller of Public Accounts from January 1993 to January 1998. In this role, they played a central role in the formation of tax policy and resolution of taxpayer challenges in administrative hearings and related litigation. Ray also managed the legal issues attendant to the agency’s various operating divisions and programs, including employment, procurement, open government and ethics issues.

From October 1991 to December 1992, Bonilla served as the Assistant Director of Research and Intergovernmental Services for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. In this role, they managed the agency's research, legislative affairs, local government assistance and revenue estimating divisions.

Bonilla then went on to become a Partner at Ray, Wood & Bonilla from January 1998 to August 2011. After that, they became an Associate Attorney at Baker & Botts from August 1990 to September 1991. Their first position was as Legislative Assistant for U.S. Senator Lloyd Bentsen from January 1987 to June 1990.

Ray Bonilla received their BBA from The University of Texas at Austin. Ray then went on to receive their JD from The University of Texas at Austin as well.
