J. Aaron Barnes

J. Aaron Barnes currently serves as Special Counsel in the Legal Strategy Division of the Texas Attorney General's office since August 2021, after holding roles such as Assistant Attorney General and Special Counsel in the Special Litigation Unit. Previously, J. Aaron Barnes worked as an Attorney at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, focusing on appellate briefs, motions, and constitutional law research, and as an Attorney Adviser at the Social Security Administration, drafting decisions for administrative law judges. Additional experience includes serving as a Legal Associate at the Cato Institute, where amicus briefs were drafted for notable Supreme Court cases, and as a paralegal at Fears | Nachawati Law Firm. J. Aaron Barnes holds a Doctor of Law degree from SMU Dedman School of Law and has an academic background in legal studies and political science.
