Kara L. Kennedy

Kara L. Kennedy has a diverse work experience in the legal field. From 2001 to 2004, they worked as an Associate Attorney at Gravley, Wheeler, McCray & Leggett, LLC, where they provided assistance to clients on various legal matters. Kara L. also represented nearby cities in misdemeanor prosecutions and code enforcement proceedings.

In 2004, Kara joined the Texas Attorney General's office as an Assistant Attorney General. Their role involved managing a large caseload and prosecuting cases related to financial and commercial frauds, lease disputes, and probate matters. Kara L. also collaborated with multiple divisions and other agencies on special projects and assignments.

From 2010 to 2012, Kara served as the General Counsel for the Texas State Securities Board. In this role, they provided legal analysis and advice to agency staff, developed strong relationships with stakeholders, and ensured compliance with legislative requests and ethics laws.

Since 2012, Kara has been working for the Texas Attorney General's office as the Chief of the Tort Litigation Division. Kara L. is responsible for defending state agencies and employees in civil personal injury and property damage suits. Additionally, they handle pre-litigation claims, provides counsel on tort and workers' compensation-related matters, and oversees appeals throughout the state.

Kara L. Kennedy obtained their B.A. in Government from The University of Texas at Austin in 1993. Kara L. then went on to earn their J.D. degree from The University of Texas School of Law in 1996.
