Jake Villarreal is an experienced professional with a strong background in veterans' services, workforce development, and education. Currently serving as the Veterans Advocacy Project Coordinator at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid since February 2023, Jake collaborates with a team to provide legal support and services to veterans. Previously, as a Workforce Development Specialist at Laredo College, responsibilities included managing various educational programs and resources. Jake also served as a Veterans Services Coordinator at Texas A&M International University, ensuring financial support for military-connected students. Earlier roles include teaching high school social studies and working as a Registrar Specialist. With a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Texas A&M International University, Jake's diverse experience is complemented by a military background as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy.

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid
Texas RioGrande Legal Aid provides free legal services to people who cannot afford an attorney in 68 southwestern counties, including the entire Texas-Mexico border. TRLA attorneys specialize in more than 45 areas of law, including family, employment, disaster assistance, landlord-tenant, housing, education, and civil rights. Now the second-largest legal aid, TRLA was initially formed in 1970 to provide legal services to poor people, primarily farmworkers, in a handful of South Texas counties. Our continuing work with mirgrant and seasonal workers now extends to all of Texas and has expanded into Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. TRLA's Public Defender Division represents poor people facing criminal charges in 14 Texas counties.
