Dr. Shirley Smith

Director Of The Nurse Practitioner Program at Texas State University

Dr. Shirley Smith has a diverse work experience, starting in 2012 as the Director of the Nurse Practitioner Program at Texas State University. Dr. Shirley also held positions as the PMHNP Program Director and Director of the university. In 2019, they became the President of JLYLE MEDICAL CLINIC, PLLC. Starting in 2020, they took on the role of a Graduate Teaching Associate at The University of Texas at Arlington. Most recently, they joined Grow Therapy as a PMHNP-BC.

Dr. Shirley Smith earned their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 1984. Dr. Shirley then pursued a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Family Practice Nurse/Nursing at Houston Baptist University from 1999 to 2002. Dr. Smith further expanded their education by obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing Science from Texas Woman's University between 2003 and 2010. In 2017 and 2018, they attended the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing, where they completed a Master's degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse/Nursing. Dr. Shirley Smith also obtained certifications as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2019 and as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in 2002.
