Erika Koren Nielson, Ph.D., serves as an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of CLAS at Texas State University since August 2013, with additional roles including Senior Lecturer in University College and Curriculum & Instruction, Director, Common Reading Coordinator, New Student Convocation Chair, and Assistant Director of the Common Experience. Nielson has taught Integrated Reading and Writing and University Seminar classes, contributed to the Texas State Writing Center, and conducted research on current trends in Integrated Reading and Writing. Previously, Nielson held various leadership positions in the Common Experience at Texas State from December 2017 to August 2023 and worked as a Music Teacher at St. Mary's Central Catholic School and Midland Academy Charter School. Nielson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Texas A&M University, a Master of Arts in Reading from The University of Texas Permian Basin, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Developmental Literacy from Texas State University.
