Christian Bunt

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable, Local Policing at Thames Valley Police

Christian joined Thames Valley Police in 2002 as a Police Constable, transferring from Hampshire Constabulary. Christian has worked much of his 20-year career in Local Policing roles at all ranks. This included patrol, neighbourhood policing and custody. He was a Local Police Area Commander for six years, heading up Wokingham as a Chief Inspector and then Oxford City on promotion to Superintendent. Christian has also worked on various force change programmes, has worked with the Home Office and as a Chief Inspector was Head of Training Delivery. In 2016 he obtained a Masters from Cambridge University in applied criminology and police management.

In 2017, Christian was promoted to Chief Superintendent as Head of Contact Management for Thames Valley and Hampshire Constabulary, which is one of their collaborated units with responsibility for both forces, control rooms and call centres. In March 2020, Christian moved to a new role as Head of Local Policing for Thames Valley.

Christian has performed operational command roles at all ranks including 15 years as a Public Order Commander, commanding some of the force’s largest events and operations over this period. He is a Strategic Commander for Public Order, Firearms and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents and attacks. Most recently, Christian has been the Force Gold Commander for Op Restore, overseeing and leading their response to COVID-19.
