The Access Project
Melanie Ramsey is an experienced communications professional currently serving as the Communications Manager at The Access Project since October 2022, focusing on supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds in accessing top universities. Previously, Melanie held the position of Marketing Officer at Girlguiding from October 2016 to October 2022, where responsibilities included developing tailored marketing plans, overseeing brand evolution, and managing budgets. Prior experience includes serving as Communications Manager and PA to the Managing Director at Coram Voice from March 2003 to July 2016, where key duties involved implementing communication strategies, developing content, managing digital presence, and organizing major events. Melanie holds an English degree from the University of Southampton, completed between 1993 and 1996.
The Access Project
The Access Project is an innovative education and social mobility charity that helps high potential young people from under-resourced backgrounds beat the odds and secure places at top universities. Our volunteers are trained and supported to be exceptional tutors who work with our students for an hour a week to raise their grades. In addition, a dedicated school-based staff member mentors the students so they have the knowledge and support to make strong university applications. Our results show this approach works. A young person who has participated in The Access Project’s programme is more than twice as likely to go to a top university than another student with the same academic track record and background.
