Tarek Masoud

Dr. Tarek Masoud is a public policy professor at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he also holds the Sultan of Oman Professorship in International Relations. He is the co-author of The Arab Spring: Pathways of Repression and Reform (Oxford, 2015) and is the author of Counting Islam: Religion, Class, and Elections in Egypt (Cambridge 2014), as well as several articles, reviews, and book chapters. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Democracy and the executive committee of the American Political Science Association's section on religion and politics. He is a former Carnegie Scholar and a former recipient of the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans. He holds a bachelor's degree from Brown and a doctorate from Yale, both in political science. The son of two Egyptian parents, he lives in Boston with his wife Kristin and their children Hamza and Ali.
