Sarah Patterson

Immediate Past President Of The Board Of Directors at The Association of Child Life Professionals, Inc.

Sarah Patterson serves as the President of the Board of Directors for The Association of Child Life Professionals, Inc. since May 2021 and is currently an Associate Professor at McMaster University Department of Pediatrics. Patterson has held various academic positions at McMaster University, including Assistant Professor and Co-Director of the Child Life Studies Programme, and has contributed to the field through roles at several other educational institutions. Additionally, Patterson is a Board Member of the International Pediatric Simulation Society and has extensive experience at The Hospital for Sick Children, where contributions included serving as a Subject Matter Expert and being recognized as a Certified Child Life Specialist. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Educational Administration and a Master's in Child Development from Illinois State University, among other degrees. Notably, Patterson was nominated for Humanitarian of the Year.

The Association of Child Life Professionals, Inc.

The Association of Child Life Professionals is a non-profit organization that advances the well-being of children and families by promoting effective, quality child life services in health care environments. Members make lasting connections as they share knowledge and resources, both through ACLP’s online learning communities and at face-to-face meetings. ACLP is a center for professional development and learning, with print and online educational offerings that keep the child life community up to date on the latest research and developments. ACLP also administers the rigorous, examination-based Child Life Certification program, with a continuing education component that ensures a high standard of professional competence among those bearing the Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) credential. The association is governed by a Board of Directors elected from the membership. The work of the association is accomplished by committees and task forces comprised of member volunteers, who work in partnership with the paid staff, located at the Association of Child Life Professionals'​ headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
