Head Of Communications at The Babraham Institute

Louisa Wood has a strong background in communications and outreach in the life sciences field. Louisa started their career as an Information and Outreach Officer at CNAP, where they developed publicity materials and disseminated information related to plant science. Louisa later became the EPOBIO Communication and Dissemination Officer, where they were responsible for media relations and science communication activities.

Louisa then moved on to EMBL-EBI, where they held various roles, including Scientific Outreach Officer and Outreach Programme Project Leader. In these positions, they communicated the institute's mission and activities to a range of audiences, including researchers, students, teachers, and the public. Louisa also managed outreach activities and represented EMBL-EBI at conferences and events.

Most recently, Louisa has been working at The Babraham Institute, first as a Communications Manager and currently as the Head of Communications. Louisa'sresponsibilities have included developing communications strategies, highlighting the institute's research, and managing internal and external communications. Louisa has also provided guidance on reputation management and crisis communications.

Throughout their career, Louisa has demonstrated a strong scientific understanding and has successfully implemented communication strategies to effectively convey complex information to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Louisa Wood completed their education at the University of East Anglia, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in the field of study related to the Characterisation of GIGANTEA, an Arabidopsis gene that controls circadian rhythms and flowering time. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) in Cell Biology from Durham University.
