María Querol

María Querol, M.A., Ph.D. is an experienced international legal expert specializing in sustainability, water governance, and human rights. Currently serving as the International Legal Expert for the Basel Convention Secretariat, María provides legal advice for the implementation of the Basel Convention. In previous roles, María has been an International Legal and Policy Advisor since 2003, a Senior Legal Advisor for WaterLex, and a guest lecturer at notable institutions, including the University of California, Santa Cruz. With a strong background in climate and water policy, María has contributed to various projects and research initiatives focused on human rights and sustainable governance across South America, and has a robust academic foundation in international law obtained from esteemed institutions such as the Geneva Graduate Institute and the Max Planck Institute.
