Paul Shapiro has had a diverse career in the food industry. In 2005, they became the Vice President of Policy Engagement and Vice President, Farm Animal Protection for The Humane Society of the United States. In 2017, they gave four TEDx Talks on the topics of animal treatment, clean energy of food, and protecting life on Earth. In 2018, they became the CEO & Co-Founder of The Better Meat Co., a business-to-business startup that provides mycoproteins and plant-based proteins for foodservice providers and meat processors. Paul also authored the bestseller book, "Clean Meat: How Growing Meat Without Animals Will Revolutionize Dinner and the World". In 2020, they joined the Board of Advisors for Jackie Mays Grill. Before that, in 2001, they founded Compassion Over Killing, a national organization that conducted undercover investigations and directed campaigns to stop false advertising on egg cartons.
Paul Shapiro attended Georgetown Day School from 1993 to 1997 and earned a High School degree. Paul then went on to The George Washington University from 1998 to 2001 and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution.
