Bernard “Bernie” Jones is the vice president, Value-Based Care, Public Policy and Administrative Operations. He oversees a newly aligned portfolio focused on delivering high-quality, affordable care to their patients in the primary and community-based care settings across the Brigham, which are both supported and advanced by their public policy and advocacy initiatives, in areas that include housing insecurity and homelessness, food insecurity, and climate change and sustainability, among others. He is responsible for operational and program integration of functions and services across primary care, population health management, and their community health centers. Additionally, he acts as the local leader responsible for all government relations activity, working under the direction of the Mass General Brigham Office of Government Affairs, and supports the Office of the EVP/COO with some of the highest priority initiatives at the Brigham and across Mass General Brigham to help reach their local and system-wide goals.
Jones’ career has been dedicated to serving large, complex, mission-driven organizations. Prior to joining Brigham, he served as the deputy chief of staff to the University of California president, who was responsible for leading a university system that included 10 campuses, five medical centers, three affiliated national laboratories and a statewide agriculture and natural resources program. Earlier in his career, he served as a management consultant, with a practice focused on governance and leadership at universities and academic medical centers nationally. He earned a master’s degree in higher education administration, policy and research from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a bachelor’s degree in English from Haverford College.
