Brookwood is a God-centered, educational community, where adults with disabilities have meaningful jobs and live life abundantly…without government funding. Graced with 485 beautiful country acres in Brookshire, Texas, Brookwood is just a 40 minute drive west of Houston, about 10 minutes past Katy. We currently serve around 110 live-in citizens and 90 day citizens. At Brookwood, our citizens spend their days in productive, creative work and enjoy their free time with their Brookwood family and friends in fellowship, recreation and participation in many special activities on and off campus. Our citizens work Monday through Friday in various work enterprises, including our Stonecasting, Clay, Ceramics, Finishing, Project BESTT, Horticulture and Cement shops. They also work on Special Events Teams, assisting with catering, hosting and serving at the Brookwood Café, as well as bottling our famous salad dressing and preparing our Chapel for weddings. Last year, we raised and sold around 300,000 plants in our Horticulture Department. Items created in our other shops, such as ceramic plate sets, decorative stonecasted items, cement statuary and stepping stones, along with other “Market” items, are sold in the Gift Shop at Brookwood, in our two satellite Brookwood stores located on Westheimer in Houston and in Old Town Spring, and online. These work enterprises provide 40% of our revenue each year, helping us to remain independent from government funds. An additional 40% of our operating budget comes from tuition and fees. The remaining 20% comes from corporate and private donations, grants and foundations.
