The Build Up Companies
Liz Silberstein has devoted her career to helping non-profit organizations achieve social and environmental change. She is passionate about non-profit infrastructure-building as a means to interrupt cycles of poverty, injustice and inequity.
Before joining Build Up, Liz spent eight years representing exempt organizations as both outside counsel and in-house counsel. She helped clients navigate complex tax exemption questions, strategize intellectual property protection, negotiate and manage grants and contracts, and address a myriad of compliance issues including employment and lobbying requirements. Liz started her legal career advising educational non-profits, schools, and start-ups at Alexander Halpern LLC in Boulder, Colorado. Most recently, Liz served as Assistant General Counsel and then Associate General Counsel at The Public Interest Network, a network of environmental, consumer protection, and public health advocacy organizations.
Before becoming an attorney, Liz worked and volunteered for several non-profits. She supported non-profit and immigration law firms and interned for United States Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity and Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network. Liz received her B.A. from Naropa University and her J.D. from University of Colorado Law School. Liz enjoys puzzles, audiobooks, meditation, and exploring the Colorado Rockies with her family.
