Marc Stevens joins the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra as President + CEO in September 2021.
Stevens has more than 20 years of experience at the top of the international classical music world, most recently as General Manager of the National Arts Centre Orchestra since 2014, serving as Acting Managing Director in 2018/2019. Under his leadership the NAC Orchestra was invited to join the Canada Day performances broadcast on CBC, and the Orchestra received five Juno Award nominations, winning Best Classical Composition for recordings in 2018 and 2019.
As a Director on the Board of Orchestras Canada from 2015 to 2020, Stevens led the creation of several strategic plans. He strives to champion gender parity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
Stevens, who learned to skate on the Rideau Canal and to ski in Gatineau, was over the moon to become a Canadian citizen in 2019. This journey began when his future wife spent two summers working in the Rocky Mountains and fell in love with Canada.
Previously he spent 12 years at the London Symphony Orchestra working with many major artists. Significant projects included the London 2012 Olympic Games Ceremonies and Trafalgar Square concerts, and hundreds of recordings such as Star Wars and Harry Potter.
Stevens also worked for the Aldeburgh Music’s Young Artist Program, and at Glyndebourne Opera, after earning a BA (Hons) in Music Industry Management with Italian.
