Susan Marx

Director, Human Rights Program at The Carter Center

Susan Marx is an accomplished professional specializing in human rights and women's empowerment, currently serving as the Director of the Human Rights Program at The Carter Center since May 2022. With extensive experience in project management and development, Susan has held significant roles at the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative, including leadership positions focused on women's employment and rights programs in Eswatini, as well as the management of an anti-trafficking initiative across Southern Africa. Previous experience includes serving as the Country Representative for The Asia Foundation in Timor-Leste and undertaking various roles in Afghanistan, which involved substantial budget management and strategic program implementation. Susan's educational background includes advanced degrees in International Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford and African Studies from UCLA, among others, coupled with a commitment to fostering social justice and human rights globally.
