Mike Riley

President, CEO, & Editor in Chief at The Chronicle of Higher Education

Mike Riley is the current President, CEO, and Editor in Chief at The Chronicle of Higher Education. Mike has had a long and successful career in the media industry, starting as a reporter at The (Lexington) Dispatch in 1981. In 1985, they moved to Time Magazine where they worked as a Bureau Chief and Senior Correspondent in their Los Angeles, Washington, and Atlanta bureaus. In 1998, they were a founding executive producer of allpolitics.com, a joint venture of Time and CNN based in Washington D.C.

In 2007, Riley became the Editor and Senior Vice President at Congressional Quarterly where they led a 170-person editorial enterprise covering Congress, politics and public policy. Mike also managed complex news and data operations, online and in print. In 2009, they were promoted to Editorial Director, Online at Congressional Quarterly.

In their current role at The Chronicle of Higher Education, Riley is responsible for the overall editorial content and direction of the organization. Mike also oversees the business side of the publication. Under their leadership, The Chronicle has become one of the most respected and widely-read sources of news and information on higher education.

Mike Riley's educational career includes a BA in English from Wake Forest University, an MPA in digital technology and economics from Harvard University, and a BA in politics from Harvard Kennedy School.
