Dagur B. Eggertsson

Dagur B. Eggertsson is the Mayor of Reykjavík which is the Chief Executive Officer of the City of Reykjavík. The mayor is appointed by the city council and can be a city representative. If he is a city representative, he also has duties as such.

The mayor plays three main roles. He is the CEO of the City of Reykjavík, the official representative of the City of Reykjavík, and the political leader of the majority. He is the power of attorney of the city treasury. He signs documents regarding the purchase and sale of the city's real estate, borrowing, and other obligations or measures that require the approval of the city council. The mayor may, with the consent of the city council, grant a power of attorney to other employees of the city.

The mayor also manages the City of Reykjavík's holdings in Part B companies. He is the chairman of the capital area's civil defense committee and is the city's representative in SSH (Association of municipalities in the capital area) and SHS (Fire Brigade in the capital area).

Dagur B. Eggertsson took over as mayor on 16 June 2014.
