Kathy Spangler

Kathy Spangler is an experienced leader in the fields of public service and non-profit management, currently serving as the Director for the Commonwealth of Virginia since November 2020. Previously, Kathy was the Executive Director for the 2019 Commemoration, American Evolution, where efforts focused on highlighting Virginia's historical significance through various programs and events. Kathy's extensive background includes holding the position of Vice President at Save the Children US, where leadership facilitated significant budget growth and program expansion for children in need. Additionally, Kathy has served in various capacities at America’s Promise Alliance and the National Recreation and Park Association, contributing to partnership development and marketing strategies. Kathy began a career in recreation services, fostering community engagement through program development. A graduate of the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Kathy holds a Bachelor's degree in Parks, Recreation and Leisure Studies.
