Richard McGrath

Richard McGrath has extensive legal experience, currently serving as a District Judge for the Commonwealth of Virginia since July 2016. Prior to this role, McGrath was a Senior Assistant Attorney General and Chief at the Office of the Attorney General in Virginia from December 2003 to June 2016, where responsibilities included overseeing construction litigation and providing advice on disputes related to major construction projects. McGrath also held the position of Principal/Partner at Kane, Jeffries, Gayle, McGrath & Cooper from June 1991 to November 2003, focusing on general practice litigation, and worked as an Associate Attorney at Crews & Hancock and Knight, Dudley, Pincus, Dezern & Clark, where the focus was on complex civil litigation. McGrath earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Richmond School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Old Dominion University, along with a Diversity Studies Certificate from Old Dominion University in 2022.
