Previously, Dhawan was the Founder and Senior Managing Director at ChrysCapital from 1999 to July 2012, and worked as an Associate at Goldman Sachs from July 1997 to March 1999. Educational qualifications include an MBA from Harvard Business School (1995-1997) and a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Applied Math from Yale University (1988-1992), along with earlier schooling at St James' School and St Xavier's School in Kolkata.
