Michael Gottwald is a prominent figure in the film industry, currently serving as Founder, Producer, and Partner at THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTION PICTURES LLC since April 2015. The Department of Motion Pictures

The Department of Motion Pictures produces narrative and documentary features and series, with a focus on ambitious, cinematic, and emotionally resonant storytelling. Over the years, members of the DMP have produced Beasts of the Southern Wild, Patti Cake$, Monsters & Men, Wendy, Farewell Amor, and a season of High Maintenance, as well as non-fiction work like Western, 32 Sounds, A Thousand Thoughts, Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets, the documentary series “Philly D.A.” and the podcast “Operator.” The Department has premiered over a dozen films at the Sundance Film Festival in the last ten years, with work distributed by ESPN, Neon, Searchlight Pictures, and Paramount.
