As a Managing Director of the Foundation, Matthew Denn plays a lead role in sourcing new investments and working with the leadership of those organizations as an operating partner and board member as they grow to build capacity and to achieve their maximum impact. As a member of the Foundation’s senior leadership team, Matthew also helps to execute the Foundation’s strategy and goals and contributes to its thought leadership and external outreach.
Matthew served as the 25th Lieutenant Governor of Delaware from 2009 to 2015, and the 45th Attorney General of Delaware from 2015 until 2019. He also previously served as the Insurance Commissioner of Delaware from 2005 to 2009.
As Attorney General, Matthew oversaw attorneys who represented all state agencies and boards, prosecuting all criminal and juvenile delinquency cases and enforcing consumer protection, data privacy and other statutes. He worked with the General Assembly to reform the state’s criminal justice laws, including elimination of the state’s “three strikes” minimum mandatory sentencing law, and to promote early intervention and prison re-entry programs. As Lieutenant Governor, Matthew helped lead reforms to the state’s public education programs, including the state’s efforts to educate students with disabilities.
Matthew is a graduate from the University of California, Berkeley. He received his JD from Yale Law School. In addition, Matthew is an active community advocate appointed Co-Chair of Redding Consortium on Educational Equity, Vice President of Action for Delaware’s Children and a member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Exceptional Citizens.
