Senior Software Engineer at The Earth Genome

Zoe Statman-Weil has a diverse range of work experience. Zoe is currently working as a Senior Software Engineer at The Earth Genome, where they design and implements RESTful APIs in Go for climate change-focused organization websites. Zoe also utilizes Postgres and PostGIS for data storage and geospatial search. Previously, Zoe served as the President and Board Member of BayGeo from 2019 to 2022. In this role, they contributed to the organization's leadership and decision-making processes.

Zoe also worked as a Data Engineer at Impact Observatory from 2021 to 2022. In this position, they designed and managed a data processing system on Azure Batch, handling large amounts of satellite imagery data. Zoe also managed an internal Spatial Temporal Asset Catalog using stac-fastapi and pgstac projects.

Prior to that, Zoe worked as a Data Engineer at Premise Data from 2019 to 2021. Zoe implemented streaming and batch data transformation pipelines using Apache Beam and Google Cloud Dataflow. Zoe also constructed Airflow data pipelines in Python, ranging from simple data ingestion to complex fraud prediction models.

In 2019, Zoe participated in the Recurse Center, a self-directed coding retreat where they focused on geospatial data analysis. Zoe also has experience as an Environmental Scientist/Project Manager at Toeroek Associates from 2013 to 2019. In this role, they supported the EPA's Superfund enforcement program and led the GIS team. Additionally, Zoe worked as a Restoration Technician at the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy in 2013.

Zoe's early work experience includes being a Lab and Field Technician at the Environmental Science Policy and Management Department at UC Berkeley from 2011 to 2012. Zoe'sresponsibilities included conducting fieldwork and lab research in ecology labs focused on carbon sequestration and ecological restoration.

Zoe Statman-Weil completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies at Carleton College from 2007 to 2011. In 2009, they also briefly attended the School for International Training, where they focused on Human Ecology and Resource Management. Later, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Geographic Information Science at San Francisco State University, which they completed from 2015 to 2018.
