Rory Sullivan

Rory Sullivan is an accomplished freelance foreign correspondent with a rich background in journalism, spanning various prestigious roles. Currently, Rory is providing in-depth reports as a freelance correspondent, having won the Times’ Richard Beeston Award in 2023 for coverage of the implications of president Nayib Bukele’s gang warfare in El Salvador. Rory also serves as a book reviewer for The Economist, focusing on critical themes such as Europe’s refugee crisis. Previously, Rory was an international news reporter at The Independent, where coverage included the Ukraine war and global events, as well as features on significant social issues. Rory's early career includes a stint as a digital news reporter at CNN, where contributions began as an intern. Educationally, Rory holds an NCTJ Diploma in Journalism from the Press Association and a degree from the University of Oxford.
