Research Medical Director – Arrhythmia And Genetics at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano

David Edwards, M.D. Ph.D. FACC has extensive experience in the field of cardiology and electrophysiology. David began their career in 1999 as the Founder/CEO of Hybrigen, Inc. In 2003, they transitioned to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where they served as a Resident Physician in Internal Medicine until 2006. Following this, they joined Johns Hopkins Hospital as a Cardiology and Electrophysiology Fellow from 2006 to 2012. During their fellowship, they also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Johns Hopkins University from 2008 to 2010.

In 2012, Dr. Edwards joined Advanced Heart Care as a Cardiac Electrophysiologist. Their responsibilities included diagnostic electrophysiology and clinical evaluation, as well as the management and advanced ablation of arrhythmias. The following year, they moved to The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano, where they assumed multiple roles. As an Electrophysiologist and Cardiovascular Geneticist, they conducted clinical evaluation, testing, and counseling for rare inherited cardiovascular diseases.

Dr. Edwards also served as the Medical Director of the Electrophysiology Lab at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System from 2013 onwards. Additionally, they held several leadership positions at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano, including Research Medical Director – Arrhythmia and Genetics from 2015 onwards, and Medical Director of the Center for Advanced Cardiovascular Care – Heart Arrhythmia Center from 2014 to 2015.

David Edwards, M.D. Ph.D. FACC completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Plan II at The University of Texas at Austin from 1987 to 1991. David then pursued a combined medical and doctoral degree, completing their MD PhD in Medicine Genetics Development at UT Southwestern Medical Center from 1991 to 2001.

In terms of additional certifications, Dr. David Edwards obtained their Board Certification in Internal Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine in August 2006. David also holds Board Certification in Cardiovascular Disease, obtained in November 2011, and Board Certification in Cardiac Electrophysiology, obtained in October 2012, both from the same institution.
