Bryan O'Brien

Chief Video Journalist at The Irish Times

Bryan O'Brien has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of journalism and photography. Bryan started their career as a photographer at the Longford Leader in 1986 and later worked at Post Newspapers as a photographer from 1988 to 1989. Bryan then worked as a freelance photographer at Independent News & Media from 1989 to 1990. Bryan joined Irish Press Newspapers as a photographer from 1990 to 1992 and then moved on to Independent News & Media again, where they worked as a photographer from 1992 to 1998. In 1998, they joined The Irish Times as a photographer. Bryan further progressed in their career at The Irish Times, serving as Deputy Picture Editor from 2009 to 2013, Video Journalist from 2013 to 2015, and finally Chief Video Journalist from 2015 until now. Additionally, they had a temporary role as a Multimedia Journalist at Sydney Morning Herald in 2007 as part of an exchange program with The Irish Times and Fairfax Media.

Bryan O'Brien received a Bachelor's Degree in Photography/Video/Design from Dublin City University in 1985. Bryan then pursued a Master of Arts - MA (Distinction) degree in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography from the University of the Arts London, which they completed in 2020. Prior to that, they attended St Brendan's College in Killarney from 1976 to 1982.
