The Jordanian National Commission for Women
The Jordanian National Commission for Women was established as a national mechanism to enhance the status of women in Jordan, based on Cabinet Decision No. 21/11/3382 in 1992. It is chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Basma Bint Talal, with the membership of concerned ministers, representatives of civil society institutions, and the private sector. This initiative stems from Jordan's commitment to improving women's conditions and increasing their participation in achieving sustainable development, affirming its dedication to fulfilling national, Arab, and international commitments. On September 21, 1996, the Cabinet decided to consider the committee as the reference for all official bodies and as the Kingdom's representative in all matters related to women's activities and women's affairs. The committee's tasks and responsibilities are summarized in the following main areas of work: Integrating women's issues and priorities into national strategies, policies, legislation, plans, and budgets. Monitoring issues of discrimination against women, assessing their reality, and following up on achievements in the framework of achieving equality and equal opportunities. Garnering support and mobilizing for women's issues and spreading awareness about their crucial role and participation in achieving sustainable national development. Vision and Mission: Vision: Equal and active citizenship in a society characterized by justice and equal opportunities to achieve sustainable national development. Mission: To elevate the status of women in Jordan, preserve their gains, instill a positive societal culture, and create a national environment supportive of their role through a participatory approach with all relevant parties.
