John Urban

John Urban is currently the President of Urban Capital LLC where he actively manages a diversified portfolio of financial instruments. He also directs the investments and donation activities of the His Will Foundation which was established by John and Carolyn Urban with the express intent to benefit widows and orphans.

John is a retired General Partner of Goldman Sachs where he was co-head of the Global Leveraged Finance Group and co -head of the Special Situation Group. He was also a member of the Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities Division Risk Committee. John joined Goldman Sachs in 1992 as a Vice President, became a Managing Director in 1996, and was named General Partner in 1998. He retired from Goldman Sachs in 2002. John was one of the pioneers of the loan syndication and private placement trading markets. He was a founding member of the Loan Syndication and Trading Association and helped to streamline the trading and settlement of commercial bank loans. Prior to Goldman Sachs, John worked at Continental Bank as a Director and founder of the Loan Trading Group. He started his career at Nations Bank of Texas where he was part of the Commercial Lending group covering New York and New England. John was tapped at Nations Bank to establish a loan trading business.

John serves as a Board of Regents member of Southwestern Assembly Of God University with a focus on the Finance Commission and prior member of the Audit Subcommittee. He also serves on the Foundation Board of Patrick Henry College and was previously a full board member. John is a board member of Media Talk 101, a ministry dedicated to the awareness of the harmful effects of media. He is also involved in numerous philanthropic endeavors. John received a BS in Finance from The University Of Illinois Champaign Urbana. He and his wife Carolyn have ten children and reside in Raleigh, North Carolina.
