Stockwell Day

The Honourable Stockwell Day, a Canadian former politician, was elected nine times at two levels of government—provincial and national. He served in the Progressive Conservative government of Alberta from 1986 to 2000 and in the Government of Canada until 2011. He is currently principal of the consulting firm Stockwell Day Connex.

Before beginning his political career, Day attended the University of Victoria, started a family business, and then served as administrator of a Christian church school in Bentley, Alberta.

Elected to the Alberta government in 1986, Day’s roles included Minister of Labour, Minister of Social Services, and Minister of Finance. In 2000, he became the leader of the Canadian Alliance, the Opposition party in Canada’s Parliament. This party later merged with the Progressive Conservative Party to become Canada’s Conservative Party. While serving in the Canadian Parliament, Day was appointed to such cabinet roles as Minister of Public Safety and Minister of International Trade. In 2010, he was appointed President of the Treasury Board.

Day is a national and international speaker and a regular media commentator. He has served as a distinguished fellow of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and as a guest lecturer at Quebec’s Concordia University as well as Canada’s military college. He is a past and current director of a number of corporate and nonprofit boards in and outside of Canada.
