Legacy Russell has a diverse work experience in the art and cultural sectors. Legacy is currently the Executive Director and Chief Curator at The Kitchen, a position they have held since September 2021. In the past, they have worked as a Contributing Editor for BOMB Daily at BOMB Magazine, starting in September 2012. Legacy was also the Visual Arts Editor at Apogee Journal from an unknown start date until 2022. From September 2018 to September 2021, Legacy served as the Associate Curator of Exhibitions at The Studio Museum in Harlem. Prior to that, they held various roles at Artsy, including Artsy Gallery Partner Programs Lead and European Gallery Relations Lead. Legacy also worked as an Independent Curator from 2010 to 2018. Other notable experiences include being a Staff Writer for GeoSlant at ArtSlant, an Art Editor at BOMB Magazine, and a Creative Producer and Studio Director at The Bruce High Quality Foundation. Legacy has also worked as a Curatorial Fellow at Creative Time.
Legacy Russell has an MRes Art History with Distinction degree in Visual Culture from Goldsmiths, University of London. Legacy also holds a B.A. with Honors degree from Macalester College, where they studied Art History & Studio Art, English & Creative Writing, with a focus in Women's, Gender, Sexuality Studies. Legacy also participated in Study Abroad programs at Elisava Escola Superior de Disseny de Barcelona, where they studied Studio Art & Art History, and at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where they focused on Art Theory and Literature. Prior to their higher education, they graduated with a High School Degree, with honors, from Friends Seminary.
