David Toll is a Professor at Durham University, where David has worked since 1988 and currently serves as Co-Director of the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience. David is a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales and the Institution of Civil Engineers, holding various leadership roles within the ICE, including Chair and Vice Chair of the North East Region. David has chaired the British Geotechnical Association and the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Technical Committee TC106 on Unsaturated Soils, among other significant positions. David also has experience as a Visiting Professor at the National University of Singapore and as a Visiting Research Fellow at Nanyang Technological University. David earned a PhD in Civil Engineering from Imperial College London and a BSc in Civil Engineering from Cardiff University.
